5e Jump Calculator

Welcome to 5e Jump Calculator, a small online tool designed to tackle a surprisingly fiddly D&D 5e rule: figuring out jumps.

If you’ve ever been the DM who stopped a session to look up the exact jumping rules, argued over whether a running start is enough, or tried to remember which stats affect jump distance, this site is for you.

So, What Does This Site Do?

5e Jump Calculator is a no-frills calculator that turns the official 5th Edition jumping rules into instant numbers.

You enter a few details about your character—such as Strength, height, and whether you have a running start—and the calculator immediately calculates your:

Long jump distance

Maximum high jump

Effective reach while jumping

Other useful jump-related numbers based on the official rules

No guesswork, no mid-session rule dives—just clean numbers you can rely on.

The Story Behind the Site

This site was the result of real table frustration.

As a DM who also plays regularly, I often hit the same situation:

Someone wants to clear a gap, leap to a ledge, or vault over an obstacle, everyone stops to argue about the math.

The 5e rules for jumping are straightforward, just not when you’re under time pressure. I was tired of re-reading the same paragraph every few sessions, so I took the obvious next step: I wrote a little web app.

5e Jump Calculator started as a personal helper, and then I cleaned it up and put it online in case other tables were running into the same slowdown.

How It Works (In Plain Language)

This tool implements the official Dungeons & Dragons 5th rules as laid out in the core rules. In simple terms, it:

Uses your Strength to set how far and how high you can jump

Considers whether you have a running start

Factors in your height and reach where appropriate

Sticks closely to RAW and avoids house-rule shortcuts

You don’t have to memorize any of that. The calculator handles it and outputs just what you need for play.

Making the Most of the Calculator

5e Jump Calculator is meant to be:

Simple enough to use during combat

Understandable even if you’re new to 5e

Reliable for tables that like to follow RAW

You can use it to:

Verify a jump before the roll

Design encounters with realistic jumps in mind

Resolve player stunts without bogging things down

Type in the numbers and let the calculator handle the rest. It’s meant to get out of the way, not steal the spotlight.

Where This Might Go

Right now, 5e Jump Calculator is kept lean on purpose: it solves the jump problem and stops there.

In the future, I may:

Add more 5e movement-related tools

Support more edge cases and optional rules

Polish the interface and add small quality-of-life features

If you spot something off, or if you want to request a feature, I’d love to hear from you. This site is for DMs and players like you, and your experience at the table is what matters most.

Thanks for using 5e Jump Calculator. May it help your party jump a little farther and your rules debates be a little shorter.
